Huset i Havet / Grovfjord
Wednesdays and Saturdays the local community house in Grov opens it's doors for coffee and a treat. Freshly made waffles are usually available, and Saturdays often there is a choice of cake. Proceeds go towards local projects, and you get a chance to meet the locals.
Blomsø Bakeri & Konditori / Harstad
The city of Harstad is just an hour away, and a very scenic drive from Elvegård. It has a lot of the big stores, but also some tasty little treats. Blomsø Bakeri is a real gem, located down by the Port Authority. They serve hot food as well as a wide range of classic and contemporary pastries.
Glasskiosken / Narvik
If you're looking for a fine dining experience that features very local ingredients and a very contemporary kitchen, Narvik has something special to enjoy. Glasskiosken delivers a unique dining style, curating a custom menu every evening for a very small number of guests. Be sure to book ahead.
Abisko / Sweden
We joke that the main reason to cross the border into Sweden is for cheap candy and bacon, but Abisko is also a beautiful place to visit for snowmobiles and ice fishing. The tourist station at Abisko is a great stop for lunch as well. Restaurant Kungsleden always has an ecologically minded menu and great Arctic flavours. The road across the border is subject to closures when the weather is bad, so check with your road traffic app before planning a drive.
Skafferiet Bardu / Setermoen
Setermoen is just over an hour to the north of Grovfjord, and has a good range of shopping for groceries and outdoor gear. It also has a charming little cafe called "Skafferiet Bardu", which is like stepping back in time from the moment you enter. All the furnishings and crockery are like something out of an antique store. They always have cake and coffee, plus a good range of freshly made sandwiches at lunchtime.
