Arctic Fishing

From May through to August we welcome families to fish the Arctic Fjords, plus catching cod in the winter.

Haven for Fishing

Elvegard Fjordcamp is really well setup for fishing. On shore we have dedicated facilities for cleaning your catch, and freezer storage to keep them fresh until it's time to drive home. The main jetty is very long with plenty of room for docking and unloading.

Our rorbuer are located right next to the jetty, with easy parking close to each cabin. The reception keeps a small supply of fishing gear on hand as well in case you need something in a hurry. Summer is the peak season for fishing so it's a good idea to plan ahead and book early for cabins and boats.

We have a dozen boats for rent, ranging from 25hp to 70hp. Read more about hiring a boat by clicking below:

What's Biting

Cod is always on the menu in our fjords, but there are other fish worthy of your attention. Halibut, haddock, pollock and mackerel can all be caught in our local fjords.

Winter is still possible to hook something on the line. Cod is always present in our fjords and sometimes they can be up to 2m in length. Be prepared. This is a superb fish to eat when freshly caught. We would be happy to share some recipes with you for fresh or salted cod if you have not travelled to the Arctic before.

Regulations

There are limits on how much fish you can take home when leaving Norway. 18kg per person is the standard allowance, when fishing from a registered camp such as Elvegård. Halibut longer than 2 metres must also be released if caught. For full details on current regulations please visit the website below.
